Those who trust in the Lord are like Mount Zion,
which cannot be shaken but endures forever. Psalm 125:1 For some of us, the concept of trust is confusing if not a little scary. Experiencing hurt and disappointment in the actions of others can leave a scar that warns us not to trust again. It’s understandable. In fact, it’s a very human reaction. It is wise to be cautious about relationships, but when does the inability to trust become a problem?
What about your relationship with God? Do you have trouble trusting Him? Do you believe He will do what He says He will do?
Trust is defined as being confident, secure and sure. While we may struggle with trust in human relationships, we can always trust the One who tells the Sun when to rise. He will never change and will never stop loving us. You can have an absolutely and positively unshakable and secure belief in your Heavenly Father. And when you do so, you yourself will be come unshakable – just like a mountain.
I love the metaphor of a mountain when talking about strength. It’s rock-solid. Literally! But what about the times when you don’t feel so mountain-like? We’ve all been there. Consider for a moment that when we don’t feel so secure and strong that we could possibly be putting our trust in the blessings that God gives us instead of the One True God Himself. This can be a fine line and one that is easily blurred. That’s why it is important to focus on the character of God and not what He does for us. And, dear one, do you know what will happen when you do? Your sorrow and pain will turn into dancing. How do I know? The Bible tells me so:
Hear, O Lord, and have mercy on me;
Lord, be my helper!”
You have turned for me my mourning into dancing;
You have put off my sackcloth and clothed me with gladness,
To the end that my glory may sing praise to You and not be silent.
O Lord my God, I will give thanks to You forever. Psalms 30:9-12 NKJV
Journal Prompts 1. Read Psalm 34:7 and Psalm 139:5. How do these verses describe God’s unshakable love and protection/
2. Describe the areas in your life in which you do not feel secure and mountain-like.
3. Write about a circumstance in which you placed your trust in God’s provision and not in God himself.
